Having drinks before getting behind the wheel has the potential to cause devastation and lifetime remorse. There are ways to avoid the repercussions to oneself – from bodily harm to job loss from driving under the influence: don’t do it. Be Cool, share a ride.
This is the key message of the joint Christmas campaign being launched by ride sharing company Cool and leading roadside assistance company RMF just before the peak of festivities.
Last year, Malta registered more than 15,000 road-related accidents with some 1,356 of these resulting in injury to the driver, passenger or pedestrians, in some case fatal. It’s always a risk to underestimate the effect of an extra drink or two on your driving ability.
Ride-pooling with Cool puts your mind at rest that for a very convenient price, you can have that extra drink without worrying on getting back home safely. Moreover, together is better with Cool and from today till 30th December, a second rider travels for just €1, when booked by the same passenger.
For this campaign, Cool is teaming up with RMF, which has been offering road safety assistance for the past 34 years, a service which has also been extended around Europe when driving your personal vehicle. RMF has for a number of years invested in campaigns promoting health and safety on the road, and regularly provides hints and tips to drive safely out of the country. Its service is offered through trained and experienced staff and mechanics guaranteeing total care for your vehicle, be it a classic, sports car, commercial or motorcycle.
Laura Jasenaite, Cool Ride-Pooling CEO, stated: “We know that this has been a very challenging year for everyone and it is understandable that one might wish to share a couple of drinks – while observing the directives by health authorities – with family and friends. But celebrating does not need to take place at the cost of human lives. This is why we’re asking people out there to keep in mind their loved ones and avoid drinking and driving”.
Founder and Managing Director of RMF Patrick Rausi said: “Besides the obvious risk of harming yourself and others, drinking and driving can ruin your police conduct report, putting your career development at risk, and will possibly increase the insurance premium you pay throughout the rest of your life. Christmas should be a time to remember – but for the right reasons. Be safe, don’t drink and drive.”
